Pool blog help

Still can’t get these pretty permalinks working.

Westhost have an open ticket and I’m hoping to get it resolved in under a week.

I must admit I’m a little disappointed in the support Westhost has offered for this problem. The ticket has been closed twice without any help, advice or resolution!

UPDATE: problem solved. It was some kind of server path issue.

  1. Heard they were good hosts.

I’ve been with techhosting and techhosting sucks.
Techhosting uptime is below 70% these days. They are probably selling bandwidth to spammers and porn-mongers.

    Time to make a change.

  2. your article helped me out big time, I own a Landscaping company in Long Island and im transitioning into building swimming pools. Thank you

  3. Hi, I am new, I hope I’m doing this correctly.
I wonder if anyone has built or has a “tiny pool”?
I have what I think is a workable plan to build a 10’x6’x4′ concrete block pool
    and I have questions.

  4. Does anyone have any personal experience with Royal Fiberglass Pools that they could share?

  5. does anyone know if gorilla floor padding for above ground pools will wrinkle if gotten wet?

  6. I have a 50′ X25′ pool which was completely resurfaced five years ago. I have been told by the pool maintenance company that as part of normal maintenance, the pool needs to be completely emptied and cleaned this year. It does not show any signs of staining or areas that need cleaning. We are in the Northeast and the pool is maintained by the pool company throughout the winter when it is closed down. I have read that the pool should not have to be emptied if it is regularly partially drained for winter, which it is. Does anyone know if it is really necessary to drain the whole pool? It is a substantially expensive operation which I would like to avoid if possible. Thanks for any help.

  7. I would like to install a fibreglass inground pool but just want to check first that it will withstand -20C temperatures (we experience -20C to +40C). Do I winterize the pool as one would winterize a cement inground pool? Thanks for any advice.

  8. my pool water is a deep rusty-brown color, i assume my well water has iron in it from this but how do i clean the pool water to make it safe to swim in

  9. I would like to post a question to a problem we are having with our pool and cannot find a way to do this on this swimming pool help blog. There is not post a question link or anything I can see. Can someone help me? We really need help with our pool and don’t know where else to turn. Thanks much!

  10. We have a liner pool. I think this is our 3rd summer having the pool. Last summer a black stain appeared at the deep end of the pool. We did not know what it was and the pool stores gave us all sorts of reasons and we tried all their chemicals and it did not work. In fact, it got worse and now we have these areas of black staining all over the pool in random areas on the bottom, large and small, and the lower sides of the pool also. We were told to use Vitamin C and we bought some and put it in the pool, but no change. Our pool is 32×16. the water is clear. We get it tested regularly and do the requisite maintenance and chemical they say to add. Pool folks are useless and a waste of money. We paid them and they did not know anything and just told us to ask someone else. Can anyone help us? It is just unsightly even though swimming is fine and the water is crystal clear. Seeing these blacks areas on the bottom of the pool is off-putting and makes me not want to invite anyone over to swim. Thanks for your assistance, if you can help.

  12. Hi. We just acquired a business with an adjacent pool, that was used for bumper boats. It is a 50′ x 50′ square, approx. 3 1/2 ft deep concrete pool. It has not been used in over a year (probably more) and the water is pea-soup green. We are told all of the filtering equipment still works, but we haven’t yet turned it on. My question is this: what is the cheapest, quickest, (mainly CHEAPEST) way to get this water back to where it looks clean. It will NOT be used for swimming this summer, we just want it to look decent.

    Thanks

  13. i had a child puke in the hot tub last night and have no idea what to do, i have turned everything off so that there whill be no cross contamination between the hot tub and pool. do i need to shock the hot tub and does that mean i will not be able to use the pool all day if any one knows the answer please help a totally grossed out pool owner

  14. our pool water is very blue but cloudy. we”ve added several chemicals and just added clarifer. that was yesterday what do we do now? thank you in advance for any advise you can share.

  15. Try adding chlorine directly to the stain. We had the same problem a few years ago and it surprisely worked

  16. Jackie.

It could be a form of mold that migrates through the liner. Try putting a chlorine tablet directly on the liner in the middle of one of the dark patches for about 10 minutes. If the spot is lighter when you remove the tablet, then it means that the mold (which is alive) has retreated away from that spot. Then you can be sure that it is the mold.
I’ve never run into this problem directly, as it is very very rare and specific to certain regions (not mine) … but I think the only solution is new liner and you’d have to do some sort of chemical preparation before installing the new liner. I may be wrong though – and if you can identify it as a mold issue – maybe someone can give you better alternative to fix it.

  17. We have 2 drains at the deep end of a fiber glass pool one is turning rust color and discoloring the pool. any advice?
